The Iowa football team has been working tirelessly to attract the top recruits from the state. Despite stiff competition from in-state rival Iowa State, it appears the Hawkeyes' efforts are paying off.

According to the Quad-City Times, three-star linebacker Ethan Hurkett has verbally committed to Iowa football. Hurkett then addressed the decision in an interview with the publication.

"Iowa is where I’ve always wanted to go, and when the offer came, I really didn’t have to think too long about it," Hurkett said. "I talked about it with my parents, but the conversation was pretty short. They offered. I said ‘yes’ and that was it."

Per the report, Iowa was not the only top program recruiting Hurkett. He had interest from Notre Dame, Iowa State, Northwestern, and Purdue among others as well.

Hurkett's commitment gives Iowa three of the top four in-state recruits from the Class of 2020, adding to a six-man class so far. Combined with four-star quarterback Deuce Hogan, the Hawkeyes currently have the No. 17 ranked recruiting class nationally and the No. 5 class in the Big Ten Conference.

Per 247Sports, No. 2 in-state recruit Josh Volk is projected to choose the Hawkeyes as well.

Iowa State, on the other hand, was only able to get the fifth- and sixth-ranked recruits, though are the favorites to land the seventh.

As for the Hawkeyes' upcoming recruiting class, The Dispatch-Argus also revealed that wide receiver Alec Kritta will be joining Iowa football as a walk-on.

Iowa's Class of 2019 is ranked No. 40 nationally, and No. 9 in the Big Ten by 247Sports.
