The Iowa Hawkeyes typically fly under the radar when it comes to the recruiting cycle. But the year 2020 is quickly shaping up to be one of their best in recent memory.
The latest 247Sports Composite Team Rankings have the Hawkeyes all the way at No. 10 overall. They are also rated No. 3 in the Big Ten behind only Ohio State and Michigan.
The move to the top ten comes on the heels of Iowa landing an impressive job by Iowa’s recruiting staff. The Hawkeyes have already secured commitments from eight recruits – more than any other Big Ten school, and surpassed only by Alabama, LSU, and Miami (FL) in the Class of 2020.
For context, 247Sports rated Iowa as No. 39 or worse in the country for many years now. For 2019, the Hawkeyes rank at No. 40 in the country and No. 9 in the Big Ten.
As for the shift this year, the Hawkeyes have done a terrific job recruiting in their own state, already landing commitments from four of the top five in-state recruits as well as the top three.
The team currently has two four-star recruits – defensive tackle Logan Jones and quarterback Deuce Hogan – as well as another six three-star recruits.
Iowa may have a hard time maintaining that top ten ranking if they don’t land some more top-tier recruits.
The Hawkeyes have only landed seven five-star recruits in their history, and only one in the past decade.
