The NCAA transfer portal has just gained another interesting player, as the Iowa football program will have to prepare for another loss to its defensive line.
With Anthony Nelson and Garret Jansen already moving on from the Hawkeyes, it appears that Brandon Simon will join them. The reserve defensive lineman announced his decision to submit his name into the transfer portal last night.
Simon entered Iowa as a three-star recruit in 2016, but he didn’t see much action during his two seasons with the program.
Although he’s not definitely transferring from Iowa, it sounds like he’s ready to embrace the next chapter of his football career.
He announced his future plans on Twitter in a heartfelt message to his coaches and teammates.
“After long consideration and discussions with my parents, I am announcing that I have submitted my name into the transfer portal,” Simon said in his message on Twitter. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to attend the University of Iowa and be part of the legendary football program.”
Here is the entire announcement from Simon:

The Hawkeyes will try to reload in the trenches, as incoming freshmen Dane Belton and Jake Karchinski should have the chance to move up the depth chart.
