On Saturday night, Iowa State Cyclones fans suffered through a devastating loss at the hands of their in-state rival, Iowa.
The Hawkeyes emerged victorious thanks to an egregious error from the Cyclones on special teams.
In the final moments of the fourth quarter, Iowa punted the ball away, giving Iowa State one last chance for a comeback. The Cyclones should have had the ball with just over a minute left on the clock.
Instead, two Cyclones players collided and the ball bounced off the back of one Cyclone directly to an Iowa player. That was all she wrote as the Hawkeyes knelt down a few times to ice the 18-17 victory.
After the game, Iowa’s official Twitter account used the special teams gaffe as a way to poke fun at the team’s rival.
“Thanks for having our back,” the caption read with a picture of the blunder.

After four-straight wins over Iowa State, Iowa is just adding insult to injury at this point.
The game was marred by two separate weather delays lasting nearly three hours in total.
It all started with College GameDay kicking off from Ames early this morning and resulted in a win for the Hawkeyes.
Sorry, Cyclones fans.
