Iowa basketball scooped up a commitment this afternoon from a Chicago area point guard with NBA bloodlines.
Chicago Heights (Ill.) Marian Catholic three-star point guard Ahron Ulis announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes moments ago. Ulis is the brother of former Kentucky and Phoenix Suns point guard Tyler Ulis.
The younger Ulis chose Iowa over Illinois-Chicago, DePaul, New Mexico and others. He is Iowa’s first commitment in the 2020 class.
“I wanted to play at that level my entire life, but I also wanted to make sure I found the right fit for me at that level,” Ulis told the Chicago Sun Times today. “I knew I would find the right place and right fit for me and Iowa is that for me.”

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Ulis is significantly bigger than his older brother, who wound up being a first-round pick despite obvious size limitations.
He is the No. 6 senior in the state of Illinois and the 45th-ranked quarterback in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
As a junior at Marian Catholic, Ulis averaged 18.3 points and 4.4 assists per game last season. He also played for Chicago’s MeanStreets AAU program in the spring, averaging 12.2 points and 5.2 assists.
