Two programs trending in opposite directions will battle on Saturday when Iowa battles Northwestern. One year removed from an appearance Big Ten Championship game, the Wildcats are struggling to find any success on either side of the football.

Northwestern owns an abysmal 1-5 record this season and hasn't won a conference game. Last weekend, the team suffered a blowout loss to Ohio State at home.

On the other hand, Iowa is coming off a victory over Purdue. It was a crucial win for Kirk Ferentz's team as it snapped a two-game skid.

Although the Hawkeyes have struggled to get anything going in the passing game, the defense continues to carry the program. Iowa is fifth in the nation in scoring defense, giving up just 11.6 points per game.

When you consider the fact that Northwestern averages only 12.5 points per contest, it's clear to see why Iowa will enter this matchup as the odds-on favorite.

Here are the details for the Iowa-Northwestern game:

Game Time: 12:00 p.m. ET

Channel: ESPN2

Spread: Iowa -9.5

Over/Under: 37

Announcers: Roy Philpott, Kelly Stouffer, Lauren Sisler

The Hawkeyes need a win to keep themselves alive in the Big Ten West. A third loss this early in the season would put them way behind Minnesota and Wisconsin for first place.

Perhaps this game is where Northwestern turns its season around, but it'll be hard to get past Iowa's stingy defense.
