We're just over a week away from New Year's Day's slate of bowl games. Among them: Iowa vs. Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl.
Impressively, we're breaking entirely new ground with the match-up, as the Hawkeyes and Bulldogs have never played before.
Mississippi State, wrapping up a solid first year under head coach Joe Moorhead, is a solid favorite over Kirk Ferentz's club, and the odds have been moving further in the Bulldogs' favor.
Per OddsShark, the line opened at MSU -4.
Most sportsbooks now have things at Mississippi State -7 as of this writing.
That isn't overly surprising though. Mississippi State comes out of the brutal SEC West, and Iowa hit a bad mid-season slump. The Hawkeyes recovered to win their final two games heading into bowl season, and this one should be pretty competitive.
52-percent of bets are going towards Mississippi State, per OddsShark.
As for winning the game outright, ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Mississippi State a better than 60-percent chance of beating Iowa football.
That number sits at 60.6-percent,vs. 39.4-percent for the Hawkeyes.
Next Tuesday's game will kick off at 12 p.m. ET. It is being held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
The SEC's representatives have won the Outback Bowl three years in a row, and five of the last six match-ups.
