Video: Iowa's Josey Jewell Ejected After Violent Helmet-To-Helmet Hit

Josey Jewell being hit by an opponent.

Josey Jewell, a star linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes and a team captain, was ejected from today's game against Miami (OH).

During a punt return by Desmond King, Jewell, an all-Big Ten player last season, absolutely wrecked RedHawks defensive back Matt Merimee with this vicious helmet-to-helmet block. He was ejected from the game with a targeting penalty, and King's 69-yard punt return was sent back to the Iowa 20.

Deadspin posted a GIF of the play, if you are so inclined.

Last season, Jewell led the Hawkeyes with 126 total tackles. He had 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and four interceptions, a forced fumble, and fumble recovery as well.

Iowa, a 28-point favorite in this one, leads the RedHawks 21-7 early in the second quarter. Running backs LeShun Daniels Jr. and Akrum Wadley have combined for 101 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries, for an impressive 14.1 yards per rush so far on the game.
