Iowa wrestling is dealing with an unfortunate situation today. One of its wrestlers was shot.
According to a new report from CBS2 Iowa, Hawkeye wrestler Sam Stoll was accidentally shot early this morning at a residence in Iowa City.
Stoll was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
The Iowa City Police Department says they were called to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on a report of a gunshot victim who appeared at UIHC for treatment at 4:37 a.m. Monday.
Police say their preliminary investigation reveals that several people were in a residence on Valley Ave. when someone discharged a firearm, hitting 22-year-old Sam Stoll.
Stoll, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound junior from Kasson, Minn., had a stellar season for the Hawkeyes in 2017-18.
He compiled a 25-6 overall record and achieved All-American status. Stoll placed fifth at the NCAA Championships and fourth at the Big Ten Championships.
For his career, Stoll holds a 54-14 record with 23 pins.
