Video: Iowa OL Tristan Wirfs Set A Program Record With Four 450-Pound Cleans

Tristan Wirfs breaking Iowa's hang clean record.

Tristan Wirfs at Iowa

Iowa has a history of putting out impressive offensive linemen. Tristan Wirfs may be the next big-time player to come out of Kirk Ferentz's program.

Wirfs, a junior right tackle for Iowa, was an honorable mention All-Big Ten performer in 2018. After seeing his weight room exploits, I certainly wouldn't be thrilled to go against him this fall.

Iowa posted video showing him hang-cleaning 450 pounds four times. It is absolutely absurd.

According to Tristan Wirfs, that is a program record for the hang clean.

He posted his own video of the lift to Instagram.

Per 247Sports' Hawkeye Insider, guard Brandon Scherff did three reps of 443-pounds back in 2014. Wirfs beat that both in weight and by a full rep.

Scherff, of course, went on to become the No. 5 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

He's been one of the NFL's best guards, making two Pro Bowls for Washington, and starting all 54 games that he has played in at that level.

It is way too early to know if Wirfs will play himself up into that kind of player, but his measurables and weight room accolades won't hurt. Neither will Iowa's history of producing successful offensive linemen, at both the college and pro levels.
