Four-star quarterback Dwayne Haskins might be the biggest recruiting win of Randy Edsall's tenure at Maryland, but will he be a Terp come Signing Day? Earlier this month, when Haskins mentioned that he may want to visit Florida, that was called into question. Earlier this month, Haskins told the Baltimore Sun that Florida, a school that he previously said he was "in love" with, wants him to visit for July 24th's "Friday Night Lights" camp.
"I'm going to try to visit. I would like to, but I don't know what my schedule has," he said. "I know I have practices, and two-a-days start, too. I think that might be time I have to go to team camp also, but if I'm free, I'm definitely going to try to get out there."
Naturally, that quote freaked out Maryland fans, especially considering the fact that Randy Edsall is not a fan of his commits taking visits elsewhere. After the backlash, Haskins said that he probably won't make the trip to Gainesville.
“I didn’t say I’d take an official or anything, I said I had thought about taking a visit to Florida," Haskins said. “I probably won’t because I know how Edsall feels about his commitments taking other visits."
"I’m set on Maryland, I’m definitely 110 percent committed, there’s no question about that,” Haskins said. “[Terps commit Jeffery] Pooler texted me that he’ll be at Maryland this week, he gets in on Thursday but I have camp, so I’ll head up on Friday and see him. That’s the only visit I have on my mind.”
For whatever it's worth, Haskins is still all about Maryland on his Twitter feed as well.
That should be a bit reassuring for Terps fans, but it might still be a bit disconcerting that he appears to be looking around. For now, Haskins is solid to his home-state school, but Signing Day is over six months away.
