Former Maryland basketball standout Ben Coleman has passed away, the program announced today. He was 57.
Coleman played his first two seasons at Minnesota before transferring to Maryland. He was a two-time All-ACC selection in 1982-83 and 1983-84.
Coleman starred for the Terps alongside legendary forward Len Bias, as well as future NBA player Adrian Branch. He averaged 15.2 points and 8.2 rebounds for Maryland.
After college, Coleman would go on to play in 227 games over five NBA seasons with the New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons.
Coleman also spent several seasons in the CBA and playing overseas in Italy and Spain.
The Maryland Basketball family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of 2x All-ACC honoree Ben Coleman (1982-84).
