Legendary Maryland Coach Gary Williams Would Tell Melo Trimble, "Get Your Butt Back To School"

Melo Trimble might be headed to the NBA. He might be coming back to Maryland.

The Terrapins' star point guard has declared for the NBA Draft, but won't be hiring an agent, meaning he can return to school if he wants before the May 25 deadline.

Legendary Maryland coach Gary Williams has some advice for his alma mater's star player: "get your butt back to school."

Williams, who led Maryland to its lone national title in 2002, joined ESPN 980 earlier today and here's what he had to say about Trimble:

“It looks like he’s not going to go past the middle of the second round and that means you might not get drafted. Guys get funny on Draft Day and there’s no guarantee he would go in the second round. And there are a lot of good point guards that are coming out into the draft this year."

“You look at guys like (Maryland freshman) Diamond Stone (who declared) … he’s got guaranteed money this year, he’s got a tremendous (upside) and he’s 6-foot-10. There’s not many people 6-foot-10. There’s a lot of people 6-foot-2,”

Trimble's sophomore season, which ended in the Sweet 16, was a mildly disappointing one. The 6-foot-2 guard was a second-team All-Big Ten player, but hopes were much higher prior to the year. He averaged 14.8 points, 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds a game.

The Maryland native is expected to be an early-to-mid second-round pick in the NBA Draft, though his stock could change depending on how his workouts and NBA Combine performance go. The combine is set to take place May 11-15 and Trimble will have until 10 days later (May 25) to withdraw.
