The ongoing controversy at the Maryland football program has led to some pretty serious accusations – some proven, some hotly contested.
Earlier today, a report came out stating that some Maryland players had beaten up punter Matt Barber. This was reportedly a consequence of Barber allegedly talking to investigators about now-fired head coach D.J. Durkin.
Among those accused of assaulting Barber was TE Wade Lees. A short while ago, Lees released a statement refuting the reports of his involvement.
Lees stated that reports about the altercation between him and Barber were “far from the truth” and that the altercation that took place had nothing to do with Durkin’s reinstatement.

Other Maryland players have come out and said that the allegations in the fight story are lies.

Durkin was reinstated earlier this week after a controversial leave of absence stemming from his involvement in the death of 19-year-old Maryland player Jordan McNair. He was fired on Wednesday afternoon after condemnation from high-level figures, including the governor of Maryland.
