Earlier:According to Jerr Ermann of Inside MD Sports, Maryland head coach Randy Edsall will be fired following this Saturday's game against Ohio State. The decision comes after back-to-back blowout losses to West Virginia and Michigan - games that the Terrapins were outscored by a combined 73-6. Here's more:
With the team off to a miserable start, fans revolting and boosters withholding donations, Maryland athletics officials are expected to move forward with their plan to fire Edsall, 57, in the fifth year of his original six-year, $10 million contract, and name interim head coach -- perhaps offensive coordinator Mike Locksley -- before eventually hiring a replacement to revive the struggling program.
Inside MD Sports expects the school to pay the rest of his 2015 salary, his entire 2016 salary ($2.1 million) and his $500,000 buyout.
Edsall is currently 22-33 as the head coach at Maryland, with a 4-5 record in the Big Ten. He left UConn back in 2011 to take the job with the Terrapins.
