The action in last weekend’s Michigan-Michigan State game paled in comparison to the pre-and post-game theatrics. If there was any doubt that these teams don’t like each other, it is now gone.
Players from both teams got into a pregame scuffle, with MSU players walking through Michigan’s warm-up. Michigan linebacker Devin Bush then kicked and tried to deface the Spartan logo at midfield.
After the game, both head coaches traded barbs. It definitely got personal on both sides.
This afternoon, the Big Ten handed down its punishment for all parties. The penalties are as follows:
- Michigan State has been fined $10,000 and the football program reprimanded for its players’ actions before the game.
- Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh have been reprimanded for their comments.
- Bush has been reprimanded as well.

No harm, no foul here for the most part. Michigan State would rather not have to pay but its not a huge fine.
All this does is add more juice to the rivalry for the future.
