Everyone knew that Gary Harris was a big recruit for the Michigan State Spartans as fans and coaches both had high hopes for the freshman.
Harris exceeded those expectations, often times playing through an injured shoulder that would frequently pop out of place during games. The 6-foot-4 guard is just behind Magic Johnson in scoring for freshmen in the school's history.
Harris averages just over 13 points per game, leading all Big Ten freshmen. He is also the first Spartan to earn Big Ten Freshman of Year honors, and serves as key player to Michigan State's success so far this year.
Along with Harris, Keith Appling and Adreian Payne also received awards - both were selected to the all- Big Ten second team by the conference coaches. Payne also is a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
