Story: After Michigan State dominated Michigan at the Breslin Center three weeks ago, it was time for the Spartans to take on the Wolverines on their home-court. The stakes were high, with the Spartans losing their last two games and the Wolverines coming off of an embarrassing loss to Penn State.
A fast-paced first half allowed Michigan State to take a 31-28 lead over the Wolverines at the intermission. But the Spartans came out in the second period lacking energy, leading to a 12-0 run by the Wolverines. Though the Spartans trailed by as many as 10 at one point, they were able to recover and make a game of it.
Back to back turnovers by the Wolverines led to a 3-point shot by Gary Harris and Keith Appling making both of his free throws, which tied up the game with 1:40 left to play. But Michigan took the lead back after Trey Burke picked the ball from Keith Appling and slammed it home. With eight seconds left, Derrick Nix had a chance to tie the game at the free throw line, but was only able to make one of two free throws. The Spartans responded by fouling Mitch McGary, who missed the front end of a one-on-one. With yet another chance to win the game, Trey Burke had another steal with just seconds left, sealing the 1-point victory for the Wolverines.
