Michigan State basketball needed a big win after a rocky start to the season, and got it at Minnesota tonight, 75-74.
After the game, the Spartans got a nice surprise in the locker room: Tom Izzo's 90-year old mother Dorothy, who showed up to congratulate the team. They were clearly ecstatic to see her.
With the win, Michigan State improves to 9-5, and starts out 1-0 in Big Ten play. More importantly, it managed the big win without two of its best players: freshman phenom Miles Bridges, and senior forward Gavin Schilling, who has missed the start of the season due to injury. The Spartans have a lot of work to do to get back into the NCAA Tournament discussion, but they certainly got off on the right foot in conference play.
Michigan State hits the court again on Friday, at home against the upstart 12-2 Northwestern Wildcats.
