Michigan State is mired in the Larry Nassar sexual assault scandal.

As the Larry Nassar trial unfolds and more alleged victims testify against the former Olympic and Michigan State doctor, the administration in East Lansing has come under fire.

Michigan State university president Lou Anna Simon is safe as of now, having received the endorsement of all but one member of the university Board of Trustees. Now, one of those trustees is making negative headlines in his own right.

Trustee Joel Ferguson was a guest on WVFN 730's "Staudt on Sports" earlier today. He used his appearance to defend Simon, and some of the quotes are going viral.

We don't mean that in a good way either. He's getting widely criticized.

"The meeting we had the other day was five hours. And talking Lou Anna was 10 minutes," he said, according to the Detroit Free-Press."We unanimously decided in that meeting right away … we were going to support her staying as president.

"There’s so many more things going on at the university than just this Nassar thing."

When it comes to potential NCAA involvement, Ferguson also compared Michigan State's situation favorably to what happened at Penn State. He doesn't see the institution stepping in.

"This is not Penn State," he said. "They were dealing with their football program. ... They're smart enough to know they're not competent to walk in here on this."

While Ferguson didn't seem to concerned about Simon having to vacate her position, we're not so sure she survives this. What happened at Michigan State was heinous.

This saga is not over. Expect the pressure on Simon to continue to mount as more women come forward and the heat rises.
