AP Writer Jokes That Michigan State Might Be The Worst Team In The Big Ten

AP college football writer Ralph D. Russo didn't mince words on Twitter when it came to Michigan State's season.

Michigan State (2-6) has lost six in a row and is looking to make it seven as the Spartans trail Illinois 24-17 in the fourth quarter. Win or lose, it will likely do nothing to alter the already bottomless disappointment the players must feel, especially for a team that came into the season with such high hopes. Preseason the Spartans were ranked No. 12 by ESPN! They started the season 2-0, with a huge win over the then No. 18 Notre Dame fighting Irish (though they turned out to actually be bad also).

Today, the AP's Ralph D. Russo decided to pile on:

Okay, wait a second. I get it, the Spartans have been a dumpster fire this year, but has he heard of Rutgers? The team that lost 58-0 and then 78-0 in back-to-back weeks? Look, I'm not a Michigan State fan, I just think it's a little much to think they might be the worst, especially when teams like Purdue still exist.

The real test, I suppose, will be November 12 when Michigan State hosts Rutgers. Only then will we be able to conclusively say who the worst team in the Big Ten is.
