Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio On Connor Cook: "He's Been Outstanding"

Connor Cook's path to the NFL Draft was plagued by questions about his personality and leadership skills. While some thought the Michigan State quarterback could potentially sneak into the end of the first round of last month's NFL Draft, he wound up falling to the fourth round, where he was selected by the Oakland Raiders 100th overall. After the beginning of rookie camp, Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio has only good things to say about the former Spartan star.

Full video of Del Rio's press conference is available here. He is asked about Cook around the 1:25 mark. MLivehas transcribed his answer.

"I think he's been outstanding," Del Rio said in a video posted on Raiders.Com. "He comes in, had a tremendous career, comes in here, he's very humble. He's obviously intelligent. He's asked good questions. He's got arm talent, and it's a matter of getting familiar with what we do and how we do it.

"But great start for his first week of being here, having him throughout the week in meetings, and the today, getting a little bit of work with some of the younger guys that are here with us this weekend. I think he's off to a great start."

The Raiders have an established starter in Derek Carr, but depth at the position is always important. If Cook, who ESPN's Jon Gruden called the best quarterback in the draft, pans out, the Raiders may have gotten a steal, and will have a young passer with some serious potential trade value.
