Former Michigan State guard Mateen Cleaves, who starred for the program from 1996 to 2000, is reportedly under investigation for sexual assault, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Saturday. The Detroit News has more:
The case is in Wayne County's hands, because Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton has a conflict of interest. He is an acquaintance of the alleged victim, according to MLive, which first reported the story.
"We are in the process of reviewing the warrant request at this time," Maria Miller, Wayne County Prosecutor spokeswoman, told The Detroit News.
Cleaves led Michigan State to a national title in 2000 before being drafted by the Detroit Pistons. He retired from basketball in 2009, and has since been seen on television for a few networks as an analyst.
