Here Are The Big Ten Tiebreaker Rules Ahead Of Saturday's Action

Now that the Big Ten West has been decided, let's turn our attention to the other half of the league.

Saturday, there are two contests that will help decide which team will take on Wisconsin in the league title game next weekend. Ohio State takes on Michigan at Noon, while Penn State takes on Michigan State at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Let's take a look at the different scenarios that are possible.

  • If Michigan beats Ohio State, it wins the Big Ten East, regardless of all other results.
  • If Ohio State beats Michigan, it can only win the Big Ten East if Michigan State beats Penn State.
  • If Penn State beats Michigan State, it can only win the Big Ten East if Ohio State beats Michigan.

Why? Because Michigan, by virtue of head-to-head, owns the tiebreaker over Penn State. And Penn State, by that same virtue, owns the tiebreaker over Ohio State.

Michigan is the only team that can control its own destiny.

Saturday's action is going to be fantastic.
