Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have produced plenty of NFL players over the years. But this year, ESPN’s Mel Kiper is a big fan of one Wolverine in particular – OL Cesar Ruiz.
The former Michigan center was one of the best at his position over the past few years. He was without a doubt the anchor in the middle of the Wolverines’ offense last season.
Ruiz has a track-record of keeping the quarterback-pocket clean as the former Michigan center allowed just eight quarterback hurries in 2019. Pro Football Focus rated Ruiz as the best pass-blocking center in all of college football last year, according to his Michigan Football bio.
Kiper is a big fan of Ruiz due to his ability to protect the QB and overall athleticism. It’s not too often a lineman of Ruiz’ size can move as well as he can. Kiper thinks the former Michigan center is one of the most “underrated lineman in this draft.”
“I think Ruiz is one of the more underrated linemen in this draft. . . . The more I watched him, the guy moves well for a big guy. . . . Pass protection, great kid, hard worker,” Kiper said on his ESPN podcast, via 247Sports. “I think he’s a guy that you could make a strong argument as the best center in this draft.”
That’s certainly high praise from one of the best draft experts in all of football.
Kiper is currently projecting Ruiz to be taken in the second-round by the New York Jets. When a center goes that high in the draft, you know he’s a talented prospect.
It’ll be interesting to see where the Wolverine lands in the NFL.
The upcoming NFL Draft starts on Apr. 23 from Las Vegas.
