Jalen Mayfield, one of the top recruits in the state of Michigan, will be a Wolverine. He made his announcement today with a special paintball video.
In the video, Mayfield guns down fellow paintballers wearing gear from Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Nebraska, his other finalists, before revealing Michigan as his college choice.
Mayfield says he made his decision after attending Michigan's spring game. He described the atmosphere in an interview with 247Sports.
"The spring game, it blew me away," Mayfield said. His commitment moves the Maize and Blue class from No. 17 to No. 9 in the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings. "The stadium was rocking. Not even half the crowd maximum was there and it threw me seeing all the support and how much the fans support everybody there, how they know everything about it I thought was extraordinary. I'd say the spring game was the deciding factor."
Mayfield, a four-star recruit, is the No. 24 offensive tackle in the country, and the No. 6 player in the state of Michigan, per 247Sports' composite rankings. 247's individual rankings have Mayfield as the top recruit in Michigan.
With his commitment, Michigan now has nine members of the class of 2018. The class is ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten, and No. 10 in the nation.
