Jim Harbaugh has definitely been an overall success at Michigan. If the Wolverines win their bowl game, he will have his fourth 10-win season in five years.
However, one albatross remains for Harbaugh: beating Ohio State. Last Saturday’s 56-27 defeat at the hands of the Buckeyes made Harbaugh 0-5 in “The Game.”
Harbaugh is going to face criticism from some quarters for not beating Ohio State until he actually does so. Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt offered a different take today though.
Appearing on The Herd, Klatt admitted that it is fair to criticize Harbaugh for losing to OSU, but absolved him for the gap between the two programs.
“The margin right now is so big between those two programs, from what he took over and inherited to where he’s trying to get,” Klatt said. “This is not the year to evaluate Jim Harbaugh based on what he does against Ohio State. Ohio State is the best team I’ve ever covered in the booth. I have never covered a better team than this Ohio State team.”

Klatt and Cowherd also discussed Harbaugh’s struggles at solidifying the quarterback position in Ann Arbor and with his team appearing undisciplined in big games against OSU. Overall, it was a pretty fair conversation.
Michigan finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and will find out its bowl destination on Sunday.
