The cancellation of the Michigan/Notre Dame series has left fans of the rivalry wondering who will replace the Fighting Irish when 2015 rolls around. Well, the answer is finally here: BYU.
Michigan announced that it will play the Brigham Young Cougars in the 2015 season instead of Notre Dame. This will mark only the second time the schools have met, but according to ESPN, it’s bound to be a heated match. The last time the schools played each other in 1984, BYU beat UM and went on to be named national champions.
Some other holes in Michigan’s schedule were filled as a result of today’s press release. In 2016, UM will play Hawaii, Miami (Ohio), and Ball State at home. A home-and-home series with Arkansas is also schedule for 2018.
