The 2021 Michigan Wolverines recruiting class now includes one of the best players in the country, who just so happens to be a five-star recruit.

On Wednesday, 247Sports updated its rankings for the Class of 2021 and elevated Michigan commit J.J. McCarthy to a five-star prospect. The Nazareth Academy quarterback committed to the Wolverines last month.

247Sports now rates McCarthy as the No. 13 overall prospect in the country. He is the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the country, and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Illinois.

Last year at Nazareth Academy he threw for 3,448 yards and 39 touchdowns with only four interceptions.

He still has another two seasons to go, and even more opportunities to make his case as the top quarterback in the country.

As a pro-style quarterback, McCarthy is well-suited to play in Jim Harbaugh's offense.

McCarthy is one of only three top 15 prospects who has given his commitment to a team so far.

Despite now having McCarthy and a four-star offensive tackle in their class, the Wolverines still trail arch-rival Ohio State for the highest-rated 2021 class in the Big Ten, per 247Sports.

They all trail the No. 1 ranked University of Miami (FL) and their ten recruits.
