Michigan vs. Indiana Recap: Hoosiers Take No. 1 Ranking From Wolverines

And the Big Ten lead.

Score: No. 3 Indiana 81, No. 1 Michigan 73

Star(s):Indiana:Cody Zeller 19 Pts, 10 Reb. Michigan:Trey Burke 25 Pts, 8 Ast, 5 Reb.

Story: Just over a minute into the first half, Michigan star Trey Burke hit a 3-pointer to give the Wolverines a 3-2 lead. It was the last lead they'd hold the entire game.

In what was billed as arguably the biggest regular season game of the 2012-2013 college basketball campaign, Indiana got off to a hot start and was able to withstand a second-half run from Michigan to take down the No. 1 ranked team in the country. With No. 2 Kansas also losing last night, Indiana should be poised to retake the No. 1 ranking it held this pre-season.

Indiana rode a barrage of 3-pointers to get out to a 15-point lead midway through the first half. But it was the efforts of Trey Burke that got the Wolverines back into the game, as they closed the gap to four (36-32) by halftime.

In the second half, Michigan was actually able to knot the score early on at 40-40 after three free throws from Nik Stauskas. But an 11-0 run led by Christian Watford and Jordan Hulls put the Hoosiers back in charge. The Wolverines were able to cut the lead to two numerous times down the stretch, but they could never get the stop they needed to regain control of the game. The Hoosiers made 12 straight free throws in the final few minutes to close the game out - something a LOT of teams weren't able to do in a wild Saturday for college basketball.
