The Wolverines just got an unexpected endorsement.
The major news of the day in college football involves Michigan landing Ole Miss quarterback transfer Shea Patterson, a former five-star recruit.
Patterson has two years of eligibility remaining, though its not yet clear if he'll be able to play next season or will have to sit out. If he is eligible immediately, Michigan immediately becomes a Big Ten and national title contender.
ESPN's Paul Finebaum agrees. Finebaum has been known to tweak Michigan fans and head coach Jim Harbaugh, but he called the Maize and Blue a national title contender if Patterson can play next fall.
Was Finebaum just feeling nice? No, his opinion makes sense. Michigan's defense is loaded for next season, and the Wolverines have a wealth of talent returning at the offensive skill positions.
A quarterback appears to be the final piece of the puzzle.
