Minnesota Head Coach Jerry Kill Is Retiring Due To Health Reasons

Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill announced this morning that he is stepping down from his position due to health reasons. Gophers defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys will assume the role of interim coach.

Kill has battled epilepsy throughout his coaching career, suffering multiple in-game seizures. He took a leave of absence from the program two years ago to deal with his condition.

Kill owns a 152-99 record as a head coach, including stops at Saginaw Valley State, Emporia State, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois and Minnesota. He was 29-29 in four-plus seasons with the Gophers, and had led the team to a 4-3 record so far this season.

Our best wishes are with Kill and his family. Health will always trump football.
