We’re only a week into the 2021 college football season and it appears ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit has already found himself in trouble with Nebraska’s fan base.
While on a conference call with the media on Wednesday afternoon, Herbstreit jokingly said “Nebraska fans hate me.”
Dan Wolken of USA Today Sports had a funny response to Herbstreit’s comment about Cornhuskers fans, saying “Join the club, Kirk.”

Herbstreit discussed Nebraska’s shortcomings on the gridiron during his latest podcast for ESPN. He made it clear that he doesn’t like all the excuses being made for the program.
“People keep saying, ‘Players today in 2021 don’t want to go to Lincoln, Nebraska.’ But do players want to go to (Iowa City)?” Herbstreit said. “Iowa, they’ll win eight, 10 or 11 and then back to eight. Don’t give me Lincoln, Nebraska. There are other coaches that are winning, there are other programs that don’t have the pedigree, don’t have the facilities, don’t have the history that Nebraska has.
“I’m literally dumbfounded, because I keep thinking, like their fans — when Scott Frost got hired out of UCF, I was thinking ‘Oh ho ho, here we go.’ And nothing yet. I have no answers for you. Their facilities are second to none. Their tradition is second to none. If Iowa can do it, I know Nebraska can.”
Nebraska didn’t start the 2021 season on a positive note, losing last Saturday’s game against Illinois. Fortunately, it has a very favorable matchup this weekend against Fordham.
