Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman Denies Bielema Report, Says "No Other Coach Was Offered The Job"

Coaching search season is a time for rumors to swirl, and Bret Bielema to Nebraska was a popular one on Wednesday. It appeared to have some truth behind it, too, as's Gil Brandt reported Thursday afternoon that the Huskers offered Bielema the job, but he opted to remain at Arkansas.

Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman says that report is incorrect, though. The Huskers' job was offered to just one man, and that man, Oregon State coach Mike Riley, was announced as Nebraska's new head coach today.

Now, this is a typical response for a man in Perlman's position. It's easy for him to deny Bielema was offered the job and by doing so, it makes his school look good. Who wants the public to know they were rejected?

Perhaps Perlman is speaking the truth. Maybe he's not. Either way, Nebraska has a new head coach, and that's really all that matters.
