Nebraska Has Fired Head Coach Bo Pelini

Update: According to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today Sports, Pelini is owed $7.65 million as a buyout, subject to his ability to find work.

Earlier: Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini has bee dismissed by Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst, the university announced Sunday morning. The move comes after Pelini led the Cornhuskers to a 9-3 record and a second-place finish in the Big Ten West. The school also announced that there will be a press conference at 1 PM this afternoon to discuss the situation.

Pelini led the Cornhuskers to a 67-27 record in his seven years at the helm. While he never posted fewer than nine wins in any season, he had been criticized for not being able to return Nebraska to an elite program. There is no word yet on potential candidates for the now-vacant position.
