Nebraska needs to bounce back in a major way after a second-half collapse against Colorado last week. They’ll have a chance to do so against Northern Illinois on Saturday.
The Cornhuskers are 1-1 on the year thus far. After an underwhelming season-opening win over South Alabama, things were looking up against Colorado. But the Buffaloes dropped 24 fourth-quarter points before winning in overtime. A win over Northern Illinois would be huge for Nebraska before Big Ten play begins the following week.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez leads the Cornhuskers’ offense. The dual-threat QB has struggled to get in a rhythm so far. Martinez has just four total touchdowns and 468 passing yards. Nebraska’s opponents have done well keeping Martinez in the pocket (just 73 yards on 32 carries through two games).
Northern Illinois has a win and a loss to start the year. The Huskies beat Illinois State 24-10 in week one, but dropped a tough 35-17 contest against Utah last Saturday. Expect NIU to put up a tough fight against Nebraska this week.
Here are the details for the game:
Spread: Nebraska -14
Announcers: Justin Kutcher, Petros Papadakis, Shane Vereen
Will the Huskies make this a tougher game for the Cornhuskers than expected?
Nebraska and NIU kicks off at 8 PM ET on FS1.
