Recruiting Analyst Tells Fascinating Story About Ex-Nebraska Star Ameer Abdullah's Recruitment

Coming out of Homestead (Ala.) H.S., former Nebraska star and current Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah was a three-star prospect with more almost 20 scholarship offers. But he didn't arrive earn those offers in conventional fashion, according to Jimmy D. Smith, a recruiting analyst for Nola.com.

Smith shared a story on Twitter this afternoon where he claims Abdullah's high school coach essentially sabotaged his recruitment by downplaying his ability to play at the next level. Smith said he took it upon himself to help Abdullah create a highlight tape and get exposure.

This anecdote is certainly interesting. According to Maxpreps.com, Dickey Wright, who was Homestead's coach in 2010 when Abdullah was a senior, did not coach the following season. It was Wright's only season as head coach.

Regardless of how Abdullah's recruitment got jump-started, he's made it clear that he's a special talent.
