Sam Foltz tributes continue ahead of Nebraska football games this season.
Nebraska football suffered a serious tragedy over the off-season, with the passing of punter Sam Foltz. Foltz, along with Michigan State punter Mike Sadler, died in a car crash driving back from a special teams camp in Wisconsin. Nebraska opponents this season have done an awesome job paying their respects. Today, Illinois was no different.
Ahead of the game, Illinois long snapper Michael Martin presented Nebraska with an Illini No. 27 Foltz jersey, signed by members of the team. A really cool gesture and show of sportsmanship.
Nebraska put the jersey on its bench, next to the Foltz jersey that the team brings out for every game.
The Big Ten is using commemorative Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler coins during games this week. Last weekend, Northwestern wore Foltz helmet stickers for their game against the Huskers. The way that the college football community has rallied around Nebraska and Michigan State in light of this summer's tragedy truly is special.
Foltz was the Big Ten's punter of the year in 2015 and was considered one of the best players at his position in college football. He was just 22 years old.
