The Stanley Cup will be back at Ryan Field this Saturday for Northwestern's game against Eastern Illinois. The Wildcats will host the NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks and Lord Stanley's trophy for the first time since 2010, the program announced this afternoon.
Here are some details, per Northwestern's release:
Chicago’s Big Ten Team will honor the 2015 Stanley Cup Champions prior to kickoff.
Blackhawks chairman and Northwestern alumnus Rocky Wirtz , president & CEO John McDonough and executive vice president Jay Blunk will serve as honorary captains for the game, joining both teams and the officials at midfield for the coin toss, while Jim Cornelison will deliver his one-of-a-kind performance of The Star-Spangled Banner. The Stanley Cup last visited Ryan Field in 2010 after the Blackhawks won their first of three championships in the last six seasons.
This is very cool on Northwestern's part, and Chicago sports fans in attendance should enjoy it.
