4 Reasons Why Joe Burrow Should Be Ohio State's Starting QB

One of the most-intriguing position battles in the country comes at the quarterback position for one of college football's best programs. Urban Meyer has a difficult decision on his hands, after losing longtime starter J.T. Barrett to the NFL draft.

Who will the the Buckeyes starting quarterback come the fall? There are two primary candidates in Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow. Redshirt freshman Tate Martell is also in the discussion.

However, for the sake of debate, we'll say Haskins and Burrow are the clear front-runners for the position. So who will take over for Barrett? Despite his success during the 2017 season, Dwayne Haskins is NOT the choice.

Here are four reasons Burrow should get the starting gig.

Spring Game: Burrow got the better of Haskins in the spring game. The redshirt junior torched the competition at Ohio State spring game, racking up 238 yards on 15-of-22 passing and two touchdowns. Haskins managed 120 yards with two touchdowns, but completed fewer than 50-percent of his passes.

Leadership: Urban Meyer loves Burrow's development as a passer: "He has to be one of the most improved quarterbacks as far as delivery speed and arm." But, Meyer truly loves Burrow's leadership, which he's developed over four years with the program. "He’s always been a very smart, tough guy, and a very good leader, but his improvement is very notable over the last, really, couple years. That started a couple years ago, where you see the ball coming out much faster."

The Grad Transfer Threat: Burrow will graduate in May. Should Ohio State choose to start Dwayne Haskins, Burrow has talked openly about a potential transfer to a different program where he'd be able to start. Nebraska and Florida have been named as two such possibilities. Ohio State doesn't want to see Burrow on the field wearing an opponent's colors.

It's His Last Chance: Burrow has one last chance to start for the Buckeyes. After backing up J.T. Barrett for two years, it should have been Burrow's time in 2017 when Barrett went down with injury. However, Burrow himself was dealing with an injury and didn't get the chance to play. The sentimental nature in us wants to see Burrow get his chance to lead the scarlet and gray in 2018. Haskins will have his time.

The 2018 season will either feature Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow on the same team, or perhaps see them on opposing programs. Either way, Ohio State is in good hands as it looks to get back to the College Football Playoff.

Who do you think should get the starting job?
