Ryan Day is on the recruiting board as Ohio State’s head coach, and it only took him a couple of days. Four-star linebacker Tommy Eichenberg will be a Buckeye.
Eichenberg announced his commitment to OSU minutes ago on Twitter. A one-time Boston College commit, he chose the Buckeyes over the Eagles and Michigan.
Eichenberg’s older brother Liam is currently a starting offensive lineman at Notre Dame, but the Fighting Irish did not offer the 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker.
While Day doesn’t officially take over as head coach until January 2, Eichenberg is the first recruit to commit to playing for the new head coach. Day will replace Urban Meyer, who retired this week, after the Rose Bowl on January 1.

According to Letterman Row’s Jeremy Birmingham, Eichenberg informed the OSU staff of his commitment on Monday, one day before Meyer’s retirement announcement. However, by going public now, he’s showing he is solidly pledged to the program, not the coach.
Eichenberg is the No. 8 player in the state of Ohio and the No. 19 inside linebacker in the 2019 class, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
