Ohio State just added a third five-star commit to the class of 2018, but not through any new recruiting. Defensive end Brenton Cox has been upgraded to a five-star by 247Sports.
247 announced the upgrade today, which bumps Cox up to the Buckeyes' second-ranked commit overall, behind fellow defensive lineman Taron Vincent.
At the time of his commitment to the Buckeyes in late April Stockbridge (Ga.) defensive end Brenton Cox was a 4-star prospect. He was the country’s No. 43 overall prospect, the No. 2 strong-side defensive end, and the No. 7 prospect in Georgia.
Now, just over a month later, Cox has moved to 5-star status and is currently the second highest rated prospect in the Buckeyes’ class behind only defensive tackle Taron Vincent.
Cox now checks in as the country’s No. 22 overall prospect, the No. 2 strong-side defensive end, and the No. 4 prospect in Georgia.
Cox and Vincent are joined by dual-threat quarterback Emory Jones as the five-stars in the Buckeyes' class.
The Buckeyes landed the big-time defensive end last month, edging out schools like Auburn, Clemson, and Tennessee for the Georgia native.
Ohio State has 10 players committed in the class of 2018 thus far, all blue chip prospects. The class is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten, and No. 3 nationally, behind only Miami and Penn State.
