Ohio State entered Saturday's game over Maryland with the Chase Young situation hanging over the program. The star defensive end admitted that he took a loan from a "family friend" to pay for his girlfriend's trip to last year's Rose Bowl.

The superstar defensive end says he repaid the loan in full. Still, he remains out indefinitely as things get parsed out. No one really seems to have a definite timeline for when he may be able to return. Some reports have the suspension tabbed at two games, while others worry he may have played his final game at Ohio State.

Ryan Day says that Young is practicing and preparing as if he can play, but no decision has been made. Ohio State faces Rutgers this weekend, so if the suspension stretches to two games, the team should be okay.

The Buckeyes waxed Maryland 73-14 on Saturday. During the game, FOX Sports broadcasters Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt heavily implied that Ryan Day's decision to run up the score had something to do with the Young situation, noting that the suspended star is from the Washington, D.C. area.

There might be something to that belief on Ohio State's part.

In a new episode of 247Sports' Bucknuts podcast, Bill Greene said that people connected to the program are "suspicious" of Maryland's staff, and noted that his DeMatha Catholic High School coach Elijah Brooks is now on the Terrapins staff.

“The people I’m talking to are kind of very suspicious of the Maryland staff,” Greene said. “Chase Young’s high school coach is actually on the staff at Maryland. I’m not an investigative reporter. I’m just saying the people I talk to, they are looking really closely at Chase’s high school coach and what hand he may have played in this. I think that’s almost where the drama is right now. Obviously, you want him back for Penn State and Michigan, though.”

It may be tough to definitely find out whether Maryland blew the whistle on Young, but the timing is very suspect, and is certainly seems like Ohio State believes that is what happened.

OSU may put up a gaudy score again this weekend against Rutgers, with or without Young, but the Buckeyes would definitely love to get him back for what could be a de facto Big Ten East title matchup with Penn State on Nov. 23.
