Every week ESPN’s Football Power Index updates its projections for each conference champion. This includes predictions for each Power Five conference.
While the FPI clearly has Alabama, Oregon and Oklahoma winning their respective conference, the Big Ten isn’t as definitive. However, the early nod goes to Ohio State.
The Buckeyes are currently 6-0 on the season. Last Saturday, they defeated the Michigan State Spartans by 24 points at home.
According to ESPN’s FPI, Ohio State has 64.4 percent chance of winning the Big Ten.
Behind Ohio State for the second-best odds in the entire Big Ten is Wisconsin. As for the Big Ten East, the top team trailing Ohio State is Penn State.
It’s possible that Ohio State runs the table and goes undefeated through the regular season. On the other hand, the program has to get through tough tests against Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.
The good news for the Buckeyes is that they’ll be favored in every game they play the rest of the season. Games against the Badgers and Wolverines won’t be easy, but the current FPI projections favor them by a decent amount.
Per ESPN’s FPI, the Buckeyes will finish the year with 12 wins.
