ESPN’s Football Power Index has updated its conference champion predictions as Week 8 of the season is about to be underway.
Week 7 had a handful of marquee matchups, including a showdown between LSU and Florida. It’s pretty clear the FPI was impressed by a few programs because there were major changes to its conference champion picks.
Even though Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Oregon remain as the favorites to win their respective conference, the probability for two teams went down.
Ohio State and Oklahoma saw their odds go down despite staying undefeated on the season. On the flip side, Alabama and Clemson saw an increase in their win percentage.
It appears Georgia’s loss to South Carolina helps Alabama more than people might think.
Here are the latest conference champion projections for the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC:
- ACC – Clemson (92.0 percent)
- Big 12 – Oklahoma (74.8 percent)
- Big Ten – Ohio State (54.6 percent)
- Pac-12 – Oregon (64.6 percent)
- SEC – Alabama (59.5 percent)
Oregon could increase its chances of winning the Pac-12 with a road win over Washington this weekend.
The lowest odds for a conference champion from a major league belong to Ohio State because of how dominant Wisconsin has appeared. Those two programs will face off later in the season.
