J.T. Barrett On Heisman Hype: "People Were Saying I Shouldn't Start"

J.T. Barrett is staying humble.

This past Saturday, J.T. Barrett helped Ohio State pull off an incredible comeback win against Penn State, launching himself into the Heisman Trophy discussion in the process. But the whole ordeal doesn't seem to be getting to his head too much.

Barrett, this week, was asked about being part of the Heisman Trophy discussion. He noted that it was just a few weeks back that some Ohio State fans suggested he shouldn't even be starting.

Per 247 Sports:

"The world we live in, it's kind of a microwave type of world," Barrett said. "Not too long ago, I was at a spot where people were saying I shouldn't start.

"So, I am aware of it (the Heisman talk) but (quarterbacks coach Ryan) Day just keeps telling me, 'Don't bite the apple.' It's more of an Adam and Eve type of preference. With that, don't bite the apple, because once you think you have it, you don't. I'm just trying to do the best I can.

"So, I've been staying off social media so I don't see that stuff (Heisman type) because like I said, it wasn't too long ago where, you know what I'm saying, I wasn't good enough."

Ohio State gets Iowa this Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. The Buckeyes will look to avoid a letdown against an always-tough Hawkeyes squad.
