Georgia lost another close contest to Alabama on Saturday night, and many believe the Bulldogs are now out of the College Football Playoff race as a result. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has a different view.
Herbstreit is calling the Clemson vs. Pitt ACC title game with Chris Fowler, and he just made quite a controversial statement. He thinks Georgia is going to make the playoff.
He also thinks Georgia is going to move UP in the rankings – to No. 3.
That would likely make the field Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Notre Dame. The Crimson Tide would open with the Fighting Irish, while the Tigers would take on the Bulldogs.
Kirk Herbstreit just said he thinks the committee will move Georgia UP to No. 3.
"I don't get caught up in champions I get caught up in 'best.'"

In some ways, it makes sense. If the committee wants to put Georgia in the field, but avoid having the Bulldogs play Alabama again immediately, they could just make them No. 3.
But fans of Oklahoma and Ohio State would go bananas. Georgia would have gotten into the playoff without winning its conference and owning two losses.
Herbstreit knows what he’s talking about, but this seems far-fetched. We’ll find out for sure on Sunday afternoon.
