The Gene Smith vs. Jim Harbaugh feud that took over the Twitter Universe on Tuesday was really one big misunderstanding.

Ohio State's athletic director made some comments about Michigan's football program that were thought by some at first (including us) to be trash talk. They really weren't, though. Smith was simply stating a fact about the state of the Wolverines compared to the state of the Buckeyes.

Harbaugh took it as a shot, though, and he responded in typical Harbaugh fashion.

This escalated things, prompting a lot of Ohio State players to throw some shade at Harbaugh and the Wolverines on Twitter.

Smith then apologized for what he said, saying his comments "were not meant to discredit our rival."

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel commented on what happened while speaking to reporters this morning.

Ohio State and Michigan are set to meet on Nov. 26 in Columbus this season. It's going to be a good one.
