Kirk Herbstreit Responds To Titans Hiring Fellow Former Ohio State Star Mike Vrabel
Mike Vrabel is reportedly the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and another noted former Buckeye is very excited.
Mike Vrabel starred at Ohio State in the mid-1990s. He was selected No. 91 overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1997 NFL Draft.
After four seasons in the Steel City, Vrabel made his career-defining move. He signed with the New England Patriots, and was a staple of a defense that led Bill Belichick's club to three Super Bowls.
He was in New England through 2008. He then spent the final two years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Vrabel returned to his alma mater Ohio State to begin his coaching career. He led the linebacker and defensive line units under Urban Meyer from 2011-2014.
In January 2014, Vrabel made the jump to the NFL coaching ranks. He coached linebackers for the Houston Texans from 2014-16.
This past year was his first as defensive coordinator for the Texans. Now, he's going to be a head coach.
The 42-year old will reportedly be hired as the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans. A big fan of the move: former Buckeyes quarterback and ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit.
Herbstreit is an Ohio State alumnus, and currently resides in the Titans' home of Nashville. He definitely has a bit of added perspective on this hire.
So far, it appears like a pretty popular move with most. Vrabel is a fresh face, and a fiery personality that should connect with younger players.
It doesn't hurt that he's played for Bill Cowher, Bill Belichick, and coached under Urban Meyer. Those rings play.
