NFL Week 11: How Did All 37 Former Buckeyes Fare?

So many Buckeyes in the NFL.

It's now week eleven of the 2012 NFL season and former Ohio State players are still making a big impact for teams across the league. Out of these 37 former Bucks playing this season it seems odd to think that most of the top players are on defense. Thinking about Ohio State football, it shouldn't be odd, as the Buckeyes have always had historically strong defenses - but that isn't the case for this years team (at least not until the past couple weeks).

For myself and Buckeye Nation in general let's hope that the Ohio State defense will keep improving over the next couple of years and turn out a few more players like A.J. Hawk, Antoine Winfield, and James Laurinaitis.

Now, before I get to your weekly NFL updates, remember to cheer on the Buckeyes this Saturday while they beat up on that team up north.

Offensive Buckeye of the Week - tie

Alex Boone and Mike Adams - Great performances blocking for backup quarterbacks

This past weekend both Alex Boone and Mike Adams saw their jobs get every so slightly more difficult as they were blocking for their team's 2nd string quarterbacks.

Byron Leftwich got the start for Adams' Steelers and the rookie put in the best performance of his young career. Adams helped lead Pittsburgh to 134 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground while he and his line-mates only gave up three sacks of Leftwich.

Boone was blocking for a much more mobile quarterback than normal, Colin Kaepernick. Boone, like Adams, helped to front a really strong running day for his team, the 49ers finished with 121 total rushing yards and one touchdown from Kendall Hunter. On top of that, San Francisco only gave up one sack on the day.

Defensive Buckeye of the Week -

Malcolm Jenkins - 6 tackles (5 solo), 1 interception, 1 TD, 1 PD

Malcolm Jenkins helped to key the Saints' victory over the weekend with an extremely athletic 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. Not only has Jenkins proved that he can make plenty of stops, but he is starting to be something of a ball-hawk as well. This former Thorpe award winner has had his ups and downs in the NFL but it looks like his career is on a positive trend.

NFC:

Philadelphia Eagles:

Kurt Coleman (2006-2009), Safety
Week 11 Stats: 8 tackles (6 solo)
Season Stats: 69 (55 solo), 1 FF, 2 interceptions, 4 PD

Coleman was abused by the Jets (yes, those Jets) this weekend, there are some whispers about his possible benching. But then again, the blame for the Eagles' defense right now cannot be placed on the shoulders of a single player.

New York Giants:

Jim Cordle (2005-2009), Center
Week 11 Stats: bye week
Season Stats: 10 games played (0 started)

Washington Redskins:

Doug Worthington (2006-2009), Defensive Tackle
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: 2 tackles (2 solo)

Worthington has been inactive for nearly every game this season.

Green Bay Packers:

Brandon Saine (2007-2010), Running Back
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: none

Saine is out for the season.

Ryan Pickett (1998-2000), Defensive End
Week 11 Stats: 2 tackles (2 solo)
Season Stats: 31 tackles (14 solo)

Pickett had a huge hit on Matt Stafford this week.

A.J. Hawk (2002-2005), Linebacker
Week 11 Stats: 10 tackles (8 solo)
Season Stats: 76 tackles (47 solo), 1 sack

In my opinion, A.J. Hawk is one of the most underrated players in the NFL.

Detroit Lions:

Brian Robiskie (2005-2008), Wide Receiver
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: none

Robiskie has only played in one game since joining the Lions a few weeks back.

Rob Sims (2002-2005), Offensive Guard
Week 11 Stats: 1 game played (1 started)
Season Stats: 10 games played (10 started)

Sims and the Lions' have had an extremely up-and-down season.

Chicago Bears:

Dane Sanzenbacher (2007-2010), Wide Receiver
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: 1 REC, 7 YDS

Minnesota Vikings:

Michael Jenkins (2000-2003), Wide Receiver
Week 11 Stats: bye week
Season Stats: 28 REC, 307 YDS, 1 TD

Antoine Winfield (1995-1998), Cornerback
Week 11 Stats: bye week
Season Stats: 74 tackles (50 solo), 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 7 PD

Carolina Panthers:

Ben Hartsock (1999-2003), Tight End
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: 1 REC, 25 YDS

Chris Gamble (2001-2003), Cornerback

Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: 15 tackles (8 solo), 2 PD

It's sad to see that Gamble is out for the year, he is one of the most athletic players in Ohio State history.

New Orleans Saints:

Will Smith (2000-2003), Defensive End
Week 11 Stats: 5 tackles (4 solo), 1 sack
Season Stats: 41 tackles (24 solo), 5 sacks, 1 FR, 1 PD

I'm sure the Saints are extremely happy that Smith hasn't actually had to serve a suspension for the "bounty-gate" scandal...yet.

Malcolm Jenkins (2005-2008), Safety
Week 11 Stats: 6 tackles (5 solo) , 1 interception, 1 TD, 1 PD
Season Stats: 84 tackles (58 solo), 1 interception, 1 TD, 6 PD

Jenkins put in what was probably the best performance of his career last weekend.

Arizona Cardinals:

Chris “Beanie” Wells (2006-2008), Running Back
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: 29 ATT, 76 YDS, 1 REC, 24 YDS

Beanie should be returning to the field this week and is likely to get the start.

San Francisco 49ers:

Ted Ginn Jr. (2004-2006), Wide Receiver
Week 11 Stats: 4 punt returns, 19 YDS, 3 kick returns, 63 YDS
Season Stats: 1 REC, 0 YDS, 1 ATT, 7 YDS, 23 punt returns, 252 YDS,11 kick returns, 253 YDS, 2 fumbles

Ginn wasn't quite as effective as usual returning kicks, but the 49ers still won big.

Alex Boone (2005-2008), Offensive Guard
Week 11 Stats: 1 game played (1 started)
Season Stats: 10 games played (10 started)

Boone has been one of the most dominate guards all season long.

Larry Grant (2006-2007), Linebacker
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: 4 tackles (4 solo), 1 blocked punt

I'm impressed that Larry Grant has stuck in the NFL when players like Marcus Freeman, Ross Homan, and Andrew Sweat have never cracked a roster.

Donte Whitner (2003-2005), Safety
Week 11 Stats: 5 tackles (4 solo)
Season Stats: 47 tackles (36 solo), 1 FF, 1 PD

St. Louis Rams:

James Laurinaitis (2005-2008), Linebacker
Week 11 Stats: 11 tackles (10 solo)
Season Stats: 92 tackles (78 solo), 0.5 sacks

Laurinaitis is now fifth in the NFL in total tackles.

Jake McQuaide (2006-2010), Long Snapper
Week 11 Stats: 1 game played
Season Stats: 10 games played

Season Stats: 10 games played (10 started)

New England Patriots:

Jake Ballard (2006-2009), Tight End
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: none

Ballard is likely out for the season; he tore his ACL with the Giants in the 2011 Super Bowl.

Nate Ebner (2008-2011), Safety
Week 11 Stats: 3 tackle (2 solo)
Season Stats: 11 tackles (9 solo)

Ebner hasn't had a start yet but he has to be one of the most surprising rookies this season.

Miami Dolphins:

Brian Hartline (2005-2008), Wide Receiver
Week 11 Stats: 4 REC, 49 YDS, 1 fumble
Season Stats: 53 REC, 790 YDS, 1 TD, 1 fumble

Hartline has been one of the most consistent receivers around this season.

Anderson Russel (2005-2009), Safety
Week 11 Stats: none
Season Stats: none

Russel hasn't recorded any stats this year but he did get on the field a bit last Thursday.

Week 11 Stats: 2 tackles (2 solo)
Season Stats: 11 tackles (8 solo), 1 sack
